Kindles @ Smith Library Center

Smith Library Center has a limited number of Kindle wireless reading devices ready for circulation to current SU students, faculty and staff. This project provides an opportunity to interact with emerging book and information technologies, and allows the library to increase access to high-demand titles. One purchased Kindle title can be loaded on all our Kindles, increasing the number of "copies" available to users at a fraction of the cost of a popular print book.

Kindles are checked out with the books you want to read already downloaded. Select from the Kindle titles listed in the Voyager  catalog.

Fines & Fees

Because there is high demand for the Kindles, fines for late return are fairly hefty. Please return your Kindle in a timely manner to avoid accruing any charges.

  • overdue: $5 per day / $50 maximum
  • lost (item is assumed lost when 10 days late): $189 replacement + $50 overdue + $5 processing fee; total = $244
  • damaged: depending on damage, up to the full $189 replacement + $5 processing
